A cylinder is a geometric figure consisting of circular bases located at its opposite ends. A cylinder is 3-dimensional in its structure because it has height as well, which joins the centers of the circular bases. Volume of a cylinder is the amount of space contained inside the cylinder and it is equal to the product of area of the circular base and the height of the cylinder. Volume of a cylinder formula is given as: V = π * r2 * h.
 
Example 1: Estimate the volume of the cylinder where radius of the base is 3.5m and the height is 5m.

Given radius of the cylinder, r = 3.5m
Height of the cylinder, h = 5m
Volume of the cylinder, V = π * r2 * h
Substituting the radius and the height in the above volume formula, we get
Volume, V = π * (3.5m) 2 * (5m) ==> π * 12.25m2 * 5m
Volume, V = 61.25π = 192.4m3
Volume of the given cylinder, V = 192.4m3
 
 
Example 2: Estimate the volume of the cylinder where radius of the base is 2.4m and the height is 4.6m.

Given radius of the cylinder, r = 2.4m
Height of the cylinder, h = 4.6m
Volume of the cylinder, V = π * r2 * h
Substituting the radius and the height in the above volume formula, we get
Volume, V = π * (2.4m) 2 * (4.6m) ==> π * 5.76m2 * 4.6m
Volume, V = 26.496π = 83.2m3
Volume of the given cylinder, V = 83.2m3
