A cube is a geometric figure consisting of 6 square faces, and since they are all congruent squares hence their side lengths are equal to each other. A cube is 3-dimensional in shape and volume of a cube is the amount of space contained inside the cube and it can be calculated using its volume formula. Volume of a cube formula is given by, V = s3, where ‘s’ is the side length of the cube.
 
Example 1: Estimate the volume of the cube whose side length measures 7.5cm.
Given the side length of the cube, s = 7.5cm
Volume of a cube is the amount of space contained inside the cube and it is given by the formula:
Volume of a cube, V = s3
Therefore volume of the given cube, V = (7.5cm)3
This gives: Volume, V = 421.8cm3
Therefore the volume of a cube whose side measures 7.5cm is 421.8cm3
 
 
Example 2: Estimate the volume of the cube whose side length measures 5.4m.
Given the side length of the cube, s = 5.4cm
Volume of a cube is the amount of space contained inside the cube and it is given by the formula:
Volume of a cube, V = s3
Therefore volume of the given cube, V = (5.4m)3
This gives: Volume, V = 157.46m3
Therefore the volume of a cube whose side measures 5.4m is 157.46m3
